30-31 October in Yangon, MIID in partnership with International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), hosted an international conference on development of food security and nutrition.

More than 40 speakers from 12 countries presented a broad range of agricultural and nutrition research to share knowledge and evidence to guide design and implementation of effective food security and nutrition strategies. By exchanging experiences and promote cross-country learning on policies and programs, the conference supports the development and implementation of improved food policies and programs in Southeast Asia.

The conference was funded by USAID and Mission Director, Theresa McGhie gave a welcome speech along with U Kyaw Swe Lin, Director General of Department of Planning, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, Paul Dorosh, Director from IFPRI and our own Executive Director, Joern Kristensen.

The two conference days were followed by a field trip, with opportunity to explore two of Myanmar’s rice fortification factories operated by Gold Power and Excel Int. Trading Company. The participants had a tour through the factory line to understand the process of producing fortified rice followed by a Q&A session.
