Over 100 representatives of government, Myanmar academics, and project partners participated in the half-day launch event of the Myanmar Healthy Rivers Initiative, a project promoting river health in the Ayeyarwaddy and Than Lwin rivers. The initiative includes both technical and community-based monitoring of trends and changes within the river basins, multi-stakeholder platforms for discussing their uses and perspectives on these rivers and a strong component on gender equity in relation to natural resource management.

The initiative, funded by the WLE Greater Mekong Research Program, is being implemented by MIID, Ecosystems Conservation and Community Development Initiative (ECCDI), the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), and the International Centre for Environmental Management (ICEM).
